Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Tipping isn’t like the US — rounding up the bill or leaving 5–10% for great service is generous.
Lunch runs 1:30–3:30pm, dinner starts at 9pm. Kitchens close between — plan around it, not against it.
Smaller shops often close 2–5pm and most of Sunday. Big sights and restaurants stay open.
Tap water is safe in Madrid. In Barcelona it’s safe too but tastes minerally — bottled is the easy move there.
112 works for police, fire, and ambulance across Spain, in English.
Hola (hello), gracias (thanks), la cuenta, por favor (the check, please). Effort goes a long way.
