Casa Hortensia ✨ New

Asturian

Asturian cider house  ·  €€  ·  ★ 4.4 (Google)

A hidden Asturian cider house tucked above an unremarkable Chueca apartment building. Fritz approved. Head straight to the 3rd floor, not the 2nd. Inside it's all wood paneling, white tablecloths, and cider poured from a great height. Go for the cachopo (fried beef cutlets with a molten ham-and-cheese center), the legendary fabada bean stew, and the custard desserts. Come very hungry, the portions are enormous. Perfect for lunch, practically next door to the hotel.

Mediterranean · Italian · Japanese  ·  ~€48+ pp  ·  ★ 4.3 (6,000+ reviews)

A Dalí fever dream come to dinner — a merry-go-round, a nose-shaped fountain, neon-lit rooms, and a tarot reader, all in tribute to Gala Dalí. Come for the spectacle as much as the sushi and Mediterranean plates; it stays loud and lively late.

Tapas

Catalan & Mediterranean tapas  ·  €€  ·  ★ 4.5 (Tripadvisor)

Eixample's tapas temple, and the line out the door tells you everything. No reservations, so just show up hungry and grab a spot at the buzzing ice-bar counter, where the day's catch is laid out on ice under hanging jamón legs. Order the egg-and-chips with the theatrics, the montadito of beef steak with foie, and a glass of whatever the waiter points at. Made for lunch.
